What is a BarCamp?

BarCamp is an open format of conferences that has been used around the world to discuss technology where participants not only listen, but share ideas and lead conversations of interest to them.  Already, on the continent of Africa there have been multiple countries who have created their own BarCamp for those interested in the newest innovations in technology to come together and discuss technology topics.  On 27 June 2009, BarCamp Swaziland was the first BarCamp in the country.

The first BarCamp ever organized was in Palo Alto, California, USA 19 – 21 August 2005 as an open opportunity for those interested in technology to meet as a response to the invitation-only O’Reilly conference happening at the same time.

YouthAssets, the organizer of BarCamp Swaziland, is a US-based non-governmental organization (NGO) and anticipates conducting technology projects in the country of Swaziland.  YouthAssets believes that a strong technology community can help develop the economy as well as help YouthAssets best acheive their mission of empowering youth-headed households.
